Microfilm-to-Digital Migration
DRC provides microfilm scanning services for organizations whose records still live on roll film, microfiche and aperture cards. Film degrades with age, readers are hard to find and maintain, and every request means a trip to the archive. Our high-volume production floor converts millions of images a week into clear, indexed digital records your staff can search and share from their desks, as a single project or on demand.
Microfilm Scanning Services for Every Format
We convert the full range of legacy microform and deliver it in the format and structure your systems need.
- Film types: 16 mm and 35 mm roll film, microfiche including COM fiche, and aperture cards.
- Output: archival PDF/A files, scanned at a resolution matched to the film.
- Indexing: roll and frame references, plus the index fields you choose, such as name, file number or date. OCR is added where image quality allows.
- Delivery: your network, document management system or ECM, or DRCSecure Hosted Document Management.
- Integrity: every file is hash-verified, so you can show the digital image matches what was captured.
How It Works
- Assessment: we review a sample of your film, check its condition and confirm formats, indexing and volumes.
- Secure pickup: film is collected and logged under documented chain of custody.
- Preparation: our lab inspects, cleans and repairs damaged or aged film before scanning.
- Scanning: high-volume scanners capture every frame, with image enhancement for faded or uneven film.
- Quality control: images are checked against frame counts and indexed to your fields.
- Delivery and disposition: files go to your system, and film is returned to you or securely destroyed once you approve.
Compliance and Security
DRC is certified to CAN/CGSB-72.34-2017, Electronic Records as Documentary Evidence, so the digital records we produce are built to stand up as evidence and to support disposal of the originals. Our NAID AAA certification covers secure destruction of paper and film once you approve it. DRC holds federal security clearance at the Protected B level for document safeguarding, and every reel and box is tracked under documented chain of custody from pickup to delivery.
Because capture follows CGSB 72.34, the digital images are built to serve as your record of reference in place of the film.
