DRC Delivers Immigration Records into the 21st Century

DRC has been awarded a contract to convert approximately 4 million images from legacy microfilm for a major Canadian Federal Government department into digital format for ingestion into the department’s implementation of GCDOCS; a document management solution based upon Opentext’s Content Server platform. DRC was awarded the project after a competitive bid process which focused on quality processes for image and data conversion and management. The requirements included a large amount of capture of key data from the microfilmed records created over multiple decades with slightly different capture systems and indexing schemes.

DRC which possesses the largest microfilm-to-digital conversion capability in Canada was able to swiftly complete the conversion effort within a few short months, enabling repatriation of the microfilm back to the department minimizing business disruption. DRC customized retrieval portals and processes and ensured that the department maintained virtual access to any record during the entire conversion effort. In fact the department continued to request scanned documents from the DRC conversion process over its own microfilm copies for use in legal matters due to the extremely high quality output produced by DRC imaging processes. The data conversion element of the project is still under way leveraging DRC data capture and quality control processes. DRC has exceeded all service delivery expectations in support of the departments modernization initiatives.
